8/29 - Last Day Live From Miami - MTV Video Music Awards Wrap-Up
posted Monday, 29 August 2005
Many MANY thanks to Panda for filling in for me the last few weeks! Unfortunately, with the tyke to keep an eye on, and going back to work soon, the quality of the recaps will be lower. Hopefully, they'll still be helpful.
2:10 - Kanye West
In one of numerous interviews they did at the media junket the day before the awards show, they talked to Kanye West about being on the cover of Time Magazine, working with Jaime Fox, his new CD, and aspiring to be a positive, inspirational-type rapper. Bean observed how ironic it was that it was HIS party that Suge Knight got shot at. Not a very positive thing.
2:37 - VMA Show Recap
Ralph avoided the actual VMA show entirely, so he was the only lucky one. Kevin and Lightning went, but because Lightning lost the good pair of tickets (that Kevin paid personally paid lots of money for) got the bad seats, where they needed binoculars just to see the TV screen! Bean stayed at their hotel room at the Loew's and watched it on TV with Lisa and Alex. How bad was it? They opened with the red-hot Beavis and Butthead, whom Alex and most of the others are still entertained by, which Bean and Lisa found odd: "How can they STILL be funny to you!?" Bean observed what an awful host Sean "Diddy" Combs was, just all hype and posturing: "Like David Copperfield without the magic." He kept lamely claiming, "Anything can happen!" And what happened? MC Hammer? Another pointless tribute to Notorious BIG? Eric Roberts pimping an album by his unknown son? Wow.
Listeners called in with their thoughts, like a girl annoyed by Eva Longoria, whose tight, camel-toe revealing dress was one of Bean's sole bright spots. They also talked about Jessica Simpson's bath mat dress (Ralph fantasized: "When I saw her and Ashlee on stage, I thought 'Where's Suge's shooter NOW, when you need him?'").
They also laughed at R. Kelly's endless, bizarre, dreadful, rambling song/play "Trapped in the Closet". (Ralph hilariously imitated it: "And then Rufus looked at Chuck, and then Rufus looked at me, and then...") Bean: "It felt like it was 30 minutes long! It was unbelievable!" They also discussed Diddy's pointless slideshow explanation of his name and Hilary Duff's lame attempt comedy (saying 'The Murderers' instead of 'The Killers'), and poor Gwen Stefani, an actual talented artist who lost several awards to Kelly Clarkson. Bad times.
3:14 - Alicia Keys
OK, Bean realized full well that KROQ fans probably don't care about her, but wanted to interview her anyway, cause she's so hot! He lamely started out with the trusty standby: "So I had this dream where I was sitting across from Alicia Keys..." Kevin: "You are!" "Whaaaaaaa?" He then went to an even lamer line: "You are so beautiful, let me just say that. I don't know where you're going after this, but please take me with you!" They then fast-forwarded throught the rest of the interview with her, and played the boys (unknowingly taped) talking about Alicia after she left. It went like this: Bean: "Dude...she's SO hot!" Kevin: "What do you think she's like in bed?" "She's a tiger." "But she's like...classy." That's the act, man. Deep down inside, dirty girl!" Turn up the dirty when she gets in bed?" "I'm tellin' ya! I think she needs a cream rinse though." Ew!! Gross, Bean! "I meant her hair!"
Ralph hilariously mocked Bean mercilessly: "Dude, you just have ANTI-game! I'm getting laid less just being in the room with you!"
3:30 - Plane Seat Woes
Ralph wanted to change seats to a bulkhead row with more leg room for the flight back. Unfortunately, he just found, to his dismay, that the new seat was right next to Bean! HAha! Apparently there is no one who talks on a plane less than Ralph. He even gave Kevin the stink-eye on the flight over when Kevin asked him what he was doing. Bean: "Aw, we're going to have a GREAT time!" "YOU are, cause you're going to shut the F up!"
3:40 - The Ying Yang Twins
Aaaaaaa!? The boys talked to the annoying, not-very-bright duo about their famous cry, their cool Whisper song, and their Atlanta Falcons. Kevin noted: "I want to beat Ying or Yang, whoever he is, within an inch of his life when he does that!"
Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day
The musician talked about being one of the few rock and roll acts there, their longevity, and touring.
